Abstract

500,355. Vehicle wheels. GUEST, I. Aug. 7, 1937, Nos. 21767/37 and 10110/38. [Class 144 (i)] A detachable wheel is secured by means of pivoted or like catches which are moved into and out of operative position by the axial adjustment of a sleeve carried by, and slidable in, the detachable hub. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a sleeve g is normally urged outwardly by means of a spring i so that a shoulder k on the sleeve abuts the inner end of the wheel-hub j. In this position, a series of tumblers e, pivoted in slots d of an axlesleeve c, are rocked into engagement with notches in studs f projecting from the brakedrum b of the permanent hub. If the sleeve g is pressed inwardly, the tumblers e are withdrawn-to release the wheel. In a modification, the tumblers e are arranged to co-operate with a V-shaped groove in the axle. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the sleeve g is formed with inclined slots p in which engage the heads o<3> of T-shaped locking-keys o, the webs of which have inclined ends o<2> to cooperate with a coned seat r on the permanent hub.
