Abstract

483,528. Vehicle wheels. GREAKER, J. April 14, 1937, No. 10661. Convention date, April 15, 1936. [Class 144 (ii)] The rim 22 is detachably secured in the forked ends 20 of the spokes 9 the inner ends of which are engaged by a collar 13 axiallymovable on the hub to lock or free the rim. The collar 13 is carried on the coned end 12 of a sleeve 11 which is slidably, but non- rotatably, mounted on the axle 1 and externally threaded to receive a nut 17. The inner ends of the spokes 9 are mounted between a fixed flange 4 and a movable flange 6 which is actuated by the nut 17 to adjust the spoke-structure. A lock-nut 19, preferably oppositely-threaded, may be fitted on the axle behind the nut 17. The flange 4, which may serve as a brake-drum, is formed with a conical recess 5 so that its edge constitutes a fulcrum for the spokes under the thrust of the flange 6.
