Abstract
556,000. Oil engines. SANDERS, A. F. March 13, 1942, No. 3372. [Class 7 (iii)] Fuel injection takes place into a compact cavity 12, preferably partspherical, provided at one side of the cylinder head and communicating with the cylinder space through an opening 17, which is made wedge-shaped, with the greatest thickness of metal at the side of the opening nearest the cylinder axis, the cavity at the opposite side joining the face of the cylinder head. The cavity 12 may be connected by a small passage with a further cavity arranged above it; or the additional cavity may be in the form of a segmental slot 21 formed in the piston with an undercut edge 22.
