Abstract

542,899. Liquid fuel burners. WALLSEND SLIPWAY & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and DOBBS, A. G. April 22, 1941, No. 5177. [Class 75 (i)] A liquid fuel burner comprises a tubular burner body 1 provided at the rear end with a valve body 2 and at the forward end with an adjustable nozzle 18, a fuel tube 8 secured centrally in the burner body by the valve body, an intermediate tube 19 carried by a ring or flange 20 secured to the nozzle 18, so as to form with the nozzle an annular air passage and with the fuel tube an annular steam passage, and a spindle 3 carrying a hollow valve member 13 formed with a stop collar 15 and a pear-shaped valve port 14 which is unmasked as the valve member is withdrawn from the fuel tube 8. A hit-and-miss valve 26 may be provided to regulate the flow of air to the space between the nozzle 18 and tube 19, which space may contain spiral vanes 22. The outer end of the tube 19 is formed with a valve seat 23 and a flared discharge opening.
