Abstract

635,450. Liquid fuel burners. GARDNER, T. L., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. April 16, 1948, No. 10642. [Class 75 (i)] [Also in Group XII] A combustion chamber for burning fuel in a supply of pressure air comprises a main tubular body 1 to which is attached two or more lateral air delivery ducts 2, having internal swirl inducing means 3 adapted to impart similar handed rotary or swirling motion to the air streams flowing into the tubular body so as to induce a flow of air of vortex nature in the region of the fuel injector 6 mounted on the closed end 7 of the body 1. The delivery ducts are equidistantly mounted circumferentially on the body 1 nearer to the closed than the open end with their longitudinal axis extending in a common plane substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the body. The arrows show the direction of the air flow. The fuel injector 6 is mounted in the end wall 7 of a frusto-conical fuel-spraying compartment 4 which is secured at its base to the main body 1 by a flange 8.
