Abstract

657,968. Spray burners. LAGUILHARRE, P. R. April 8,1949, Nos. 9637 and 9638. Convention dates, April 9, 1948 and March 28, 1949. [Class 75(i)] [Also in Group XXIX] Liquid fuel fed by a pipe 25 to a chamber 1 is whirled by a screw 18 and atomized at the outlet 20 by a gas stream whirling in an opposite direction from an annular outlet 9. The gas is fed to a chamber 8 from a chamber 6 through tangential passages 7, and the spray output is adjusted by a needle 17. Alternatively, Fig. 4, a portion of the gas is led to tangential passages 29 in a ring 28 to provide an additional whirling gas stream. Blades 31 corresponding with passages 29 are carried by a rotatable ring 30 and may adjust this stream. The passages 29, alternatively may be radial or mere vertical openings, in which case the blades 31 are sloped to impart a whirling movement to the gas. The apex angle of the spray jet can be varied through a wide range by varying the ratio of gas and liquid fuel fed to the chambers.
