Abstract

1380931 Liquid fuel burners A H LEFEBVRE and E R NORSTER 10 Jan 1972 [11 Jan 1971] 1315/71 Heading F4T An airblast atomizer for injection of liquid fuel into a gas turbine engine comprises an arm 1 having a fuel supply bore 2 leading to an annular gallery 4 and to tangential parts 15 the fuel flowing along a divergent wall 17 of a member 7 to be discharged as a thin continuous sheet 41 from an atomizing lip 10 wherein it is subject to non-swirling air flows from an annular passage 12, and from an annular passage 40 the thus atomized fuel flow then passing to a region 43 of high turbulence caused by the meeting of two contra-rotating air flows produced by an outer swirler 11 and an inner swirler 22, efficient combustion occurring in the region 43. The inner swirler 22 is carried by a member 19 supported in the main body of the atomizer by three equiangularly spaced vanes 20 and in a further embodiment a pilot fuel injector having a separate fuel supply bore passing through one of the vanes 20 is located axially in the centre of the body 19. The pilot fuel injector described is of the kind disclosed in Specification 1,031,184.
