Abstract

682,576. Liquid-fuel burners, BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 9, 1951 [April 20, 1950], No. 8182/51. Class 75(i) [Also in Group XXIX] In an atomizing nozzle for liquid fuel, particularly for use in a combustion chamber of a gas turbine plant, liquid fuel is supplied through an inlet 8, a central conduit 2, radial openings 14, an annular passage 15, anud grooves 18 in a conical end of a plug 14, to be ejected as a conical spray through an orifice 3, whilst air is supplied through an inlet 9 and an annular passage 4 to a pintle nozzle 5 surrounding the orifice 3 to be emitted in the form of a cone having a greater included angle than that of the fuel spray and tending by induction to increase the angle of divergence of the latter. Atomization of the fuel is thus improved at low fuel pressures.
