Abstract
703,431. Generating combustion products under pressure. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Feb. 25, 1952 [April 18, 1951], No. 9102/51. Class.51 (1). [Also in Group XI] In an atomizing type burner fluids are mixed in a first Venturi 4 and the mixture is conveyed by a duct 7 to a second Venturi 8 forming part of a flame tube 9 and one or more of the same or other fluids is heated in a duct 10 surrounding the flame tube and is discharged into the second Venturi 8. The duct 7 may have a discharge jet located to discharge the mixture in a relatively fine stream centrally of the second Venturi and the bore of the jet may be of the same diameter as the neck of the first Venturi. The flame tube 9 may be axially adjustable within the duct 10 to vary the position of the second Venturi relative to the jet. The first Venturi is formed in a block 1 having an annular duct 2 fed by a bore 6 and communicating with the neck of the first Venturi through either a plurality of radial ducts or, as shown, by transverse flow through a cylindrical space 3 of very short axial extent formed by the block being made in two separate halves spaced by a washer 13. A supply pipe 5 is connected to the inlet end of the first Venturi. In operation air under pressure from the supply pipe 5. draws fuel through the duct 3 into the first Venturi where atomization of the fuel by the air takes place. The mixture in discharging into the second Venturi 8 draws in secondary air from the annular duct between the duct 10 and the flame tube 9.
