Abstract

679,145. Generating combustion products under pressure. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. April 26, 1951 [May 1, 1950], No. 10702/50. Class 51 (i). The flame tube of a combustion chamber has a circular baffle 1 at the air and fuel inlet end, the baffle having an inlet 2 at an upstream and radially inward part thereof through which primary air enters with a swirl in one direction, and another inlet 3 at a downstream and radially outward part through which air enters with a swirl in the opposite direction, and the whole of the wall of the baffle between the two entries is perforated by a large number of small, closely-spaced orifices 5 through which air is admitted in non-penetrative jets so as to form a uniform layer over the downstream surface of the wall. The baffle is formed as a conical wall and a cylindrical portion 10 is disposed around the baffle to form a scoop which together with the flame tube 7 forms an air entry 11.
