Abstract
613,984. Liquid fuel burners. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd., and NATHAN, M. L. May 19, 1944, No. 9761. [Class 75 (i)] [Also in Group XII] In a gas turbine or other combustion apparatus in which fuel is injected from a burner into a gaseous stream in its direction of flow and means are provided for including in the stream a vortex flow having a core of reversed flow, a plurality of vanes or baffles are provided around the burner for preventing a vortex flow around the burner and in the immediate region of the burner face. In the apparatus shown air enters the combustion chamber 24 past swirlers 23 and the core of reversed flow is prevented from reaching the burner face by radial vanes 7 provided either on the burner body 1 or on the end wall of the chamber 24. The burner may comprise a hollow cylindrical body formed with a frusto-conical end 10 carrying six nozzles 4 arranged symmetrically around a central nozzle. Each nozzle is fitted with a threaded plug 9 and is formed with a swirl chamber to which fuel under pressure is admitted through tangential passages. The vanes 7 when provided on the burner body preheat the fuel passing to the nozzles 4.
