Abstract

977,219. Gas burners. SOC. DES ACIERIES DE POMPEY. Jan. 7, 1963 [Jan. 30, 1962], No. 700/63. Heading F4T. A gas burner comprises a tubular mixing chamber 15 connected to a coaxial tubular combustion chamber 16 by a frustoconical section 28, the diameters of the chambers being such that the air-fuel gas mixture flows through the mixing chamber at a rate higher than the velocity of flame propagation and through the combustion chamber at a rate lower than the velocity of flame propagation. Gas is supplied to the mixing chamber 15 through an axially adjustable injector 11 having a calibrated outlet orifice 12, and air is supplied to the chamber 15 from a pipe 13, via a plurality of orifices 23 in a partition 22 and an inner annular chamber 20 communicating with the chamber 15. The combustion chamber 16 has a length substantially equal or slightly greater than its diameter and is substantially twice the diameter of the mixing chamber 15 which has a length substantially equal or slightly greater than twice itsdiameter. The frusto-conical section 28 has a half angle vertex angle of about 30 degrees and is provided with two orifices 29. In an alternative arrangement gas may be supplied to the pipe 13 and air to the injector 11.
