764,354. Burners. ZEISS-STIFTUNG, C., [trading as JENAER GTASIWERK SCHOTT & GEN.]. Jan. 24,1955 [Jan. 28. 1954], No. 2132/55. Class 75(1) In a method of burning fuel oxygen mixtues the oxidizing gases introduced tangentially into.a cylindrical mixing chamber 1 and whirl about a centrally disposed fuel supply pipe 2, and the rate of flow through the combustion nozzle 1a is regulated by varying the cross section of the nozzle opening 1b. The fuel supply pipe 2 is mounted coaxially within the mixing chamber 1 and slides in a sleeve 5 at the rear end of the mixing chamber to adjust the position of a valve cone 2a on the forward end of the fuel supply pipe relative to the conical combustion nozzle 1a on the forward end of the mixing chamber 1. The fuel is introduced radially into the mixing chamber through apertures 3 in the fuel supply pipe. The fuel may be gaseous liquid or granular and in the latter case the apertures 3 are preferably in the form of slots which diverge outwardly in the flow direction. The granular fuel is conveyed from a hopper, mounted on the rear end of the fuel pipe, along the fuel pipe by a screw.
