Abstract
1,186,041. Spray-producers. METCO Inc. 13 Sept., 1967 [14 Nov., 1966], No. 41783/67. Heading B2F. A powder-fed flame spray gun comprises a mixing plug body 17 defining a central powder supply conduit 18, separate fuel gas. and oxidizing gas passages 12 and 13 respectively leading to an annular mixing chamber 25 surrounding the conduit 18, a baffle 34 located in a chamber 33 downstream of the chamber 25, and a burner nozzle having a ring of jets 40. The fuel gas and the oxidizing gas reach the mixing chamber 25 via passages 26 and 27 respectively and by further passages (31) Fig. 3 (not shown) which are aligned with passages (32) leading from the chamber 25 to the chamber 33. The chamber 25 is defined between the plug 17 and a sleeve 24 which is fluted on its external surface, Fig. 5 (not shown). The powder is transported through the conduit 18 by a gas selected using the apparatus disclosed in Specification 1,186,042 and is discharged through diverging holes 39. The baffle 34 is formed by a washer and causes complete mixing of the fuel gas and the oxidizing gas before they are discharged through outlets 40. Air for cooling &c. the spray is discharged from a plurality of converging jets 42 defined by a member 15. The jets 42 may be made diverging by reversing the member 15. The powder is fed from a cylindrical pow der container (2) Fig. 1 (not shown) to a powder feed chamber (10) via a pinch-type shut-off valve (7) controlled by a trigger (9).
