Abstract

1,186,042. Spray-producers. METCO Inc. 13 Sept., 1967 [14 Nov., 1966], No. 41784/67. Heading B2F. A powder fed flame spray gun having a fuel gas conduit 23, a conduit 24 for a combustion supporting gas such as oxygen, and a conduit 11 along which the powder is transported by a carrier gas, and valve means, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown) for optionally connecting one of the conduits 23, 24 with the conduit 11 whereby the fuel gas or the oxygen acts as the carrier gas. A further conduit (14) Fig. 3 (not shown) supplies an auxiliary gas such as air to a ring of jets 18 in the nozzle for cooling &c. purposes, the said valve means being additionally connected to the conduit (14) by an opening (33), Fig. 6, so that the auxiliary gas may also be used to transport the powder. The fuel gas may be acetylene, hydrogen or propane. A tapered plug valve 22 allows the gases to flow through conduits 13 and 12 respectively and they are mixed in a nozzle 15 before discharge through a ring of jets 17. The conduit 11 communicates via a needle valve (26), Fig. 3 (not shown) with an opening (28), Fig. 6, which is connected to the conduit of the selected carrier gas by a removable plate, the auxiliary gas plate (34) being depicted in Fig. 7 (not shown). Alternatively a hand operated switch over valve including a rotatable pipe (41), Fig. 8 (not shown) may be used as the valve device. An additional auxiliary gas conduit may be provided. The nozzle 15 and the powder feed device, Fig. 3 (not shown) are identical with those disclosed in Specification 1,186,041.
