969,746. Spray-producers. L'AIR LIQUIDE SOC. ANON. POUR L'ETUDE ET L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES GEORGES CLAUDE. July 9, 1963 [July 27, 1962], No. 27190/63. Heading B2F. An apparatus, suitable for spraying metallic or refractory materials in powder form, of the kind in which a jet of ionized gas is heated to a very high temperature by an electric arc or a blowpipe flame and caused to issue through a nozzle, the powder to be projected being suspended in an auxiliary gaseous stream and injected into the nozzle 1 near the outlet 3 thereof, comprises a powder supply passage 2 extending through a wall of the nozzle, the width of the passage in a direction at right angles to the nozzle axis being approximately equal to the diameter of the nozzle and its depth parallel to the nozzle axis being sufficiently small to spread the powder into a thin sheet substantially perpendicular to the axis of the gas jet so that the gas jet intercepts the said sheet over its entire width and distributes the powder grains over the entire section of the jet. A supply tube 4 for the auxiliary gas stream propelling the powder is connected to the passage 2 by means of a collar 5 of stainless steel which is secured in position by a locking screw 6. Cooling water is passed through the chamber surrounding the central electrode 9.
