1,115,586. Cutting by fusion. GOSUDARS TVENY SOJUZNY INSTITUT PROJEKTIROVANYA METALLOURGITCHESKIKH ZAVODOV. 26 Aug., 1966 [15 April, 1966], No. 38399/66. Heading B3V. An oxygen cutting apparatus, particularly for severing continuous castings 1, has a cutting nozzle 2 mounted on one branch 4 of an elbow type body whose other branch 5 is connected at 6 to flexible fluid supply pipes and is slidable at 19 for moving the nozzle across the casting, the length of the branch 5 being sufficient for protection of the pipes from radiant heat. Two nozzles 2, 3 movable in opposite directions are provided for severing the casting, and are each inclined outwardly at a small angle a to ensure that the corners 17 of the casting are first contacted by the flame. Each burner body contains a duct 7 for heating gas, a duct (10), Fig. 2 (not shown), for heating oxygen, a duct 8 for cutting oxygen, and cooling water ducts 9 which also pass into branch 4. Cooling air enters inlet 12, passes through an annular jacket 11 and is discharged through outlet 13. A one-way valve 15 is disposed downstream of the mixing chamber for the heating gases. An igniting device 14 is provided for each nozzle.
