Abstract

1,035,247. Consuming waste gases. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. May 2, 1963 [May 4, 1962; March 21, 1963], No. 17325/63. Heading F4B. An incinerator comprises at least one voluteshaped gas distributer 10 each positioned at one end of a furnace housing 1 and coaxially around a respective burner 11 which projects into the housing 1, waste gas supplied through an inlet 3 entering the distributer tangentially and being directed into the flame of the burner, gases exiting from the distributer through a port 16 axially aligned with the burner and from the housing through outlet 4. In Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) the waste gas from the port 3 passes through heat exchange tubes 7 positioned within the housing and thence to the distributer inlet. Combustion products pass around baffle 19 in housing 1 and over tubes 7 in a heat exchanger section 23 to outlet 4. The burner is supplied with fuel and air through lines 12, 13 and the waste gas may be supplied to inlet 3 by a fan. In Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) the housing 1 has an inner wall 34 and a helical baffle 41 between the housing and inner wall directs the waste gas to the distributer. In Figs. 3-5 (not shown) the waste gas enters the flame through angularly spaced openings 45 in a tube 40 positioned axially within the volute distributer.
