Abstract

1,204,374. Air heating stoves. NU-WAY BENSON Ltd. 5 Sept., 1968 [4 July, 1967], No.'30637/67. Heading F4S. An air heater has a fluid-fuel fired combustion chamber 21 with a closed end 30 from which the burner gases are deflected back to an exhaust outlet at the burner end of the chamber leading to an annular flue passage 14 surrounding and spaced from the combustion chamber, the exhaust gases finally passing to an annular chamber 36 leading to a stack 37. Air to be heated is blown by a fan (not shown) into a space 43 at the burner end of the apparatus. The air passes over a baffle 42 in the space 43 to an annular duct 11 surrounding the exhaust gas passage 14. The outer wall 10 of the duct 11 constitutes the outer shell of the heater which thus remains cool. From the duct 11 the air flows to series-connected concentric ducts 18, 20 surrounding the combustion chamber, the now heated air passing finally to an outlet duct 54. A sleeve valve 56, 58 enables some of the unheated air to be by-passed from the duct 11 directly to the outlet 54. This by-passed flow is said to increase the flow rate in the duct 11, thus helping to maintain cool the outer shell 10.
