963,002. Air heating stoves. COLOMBO COMMERCIAL CO. Ltd. May 22, 1963, No. 20460/63. Heading F4S. An air heating apparatus comprises a metal combustion chamber 3 on a cylindrical part 1 of which are formed longitudinally extending external fins 2, the chamber being closed at one end by a flat cover-plate 6 and at the other end by a hollow metal structure 4 of a general conical form convergent in the direction away from the combustion chamber, and having axially directed external fins 5. An annular exhaust jacket 7 having one end closed and the other communicating with an annular manifold 10, envelopes the finned wall of the combustion chamber. Air to be heated, which may be induced by a fan (not shown) flows first through an annular passage 11 formed around the outer wall 12 of the exhaust jacket by an outer cylindrical wall 13, and then through a passage 14 formed between the exhaust jacket and the combustion chamber wall. The heated air leaves the passage 14 through an exit formed by a funnel 16 leading to a duct 17. Combustion gases, which may be assisted by a forced draught fan, leave the combustion chamber via ports 18, which are connected to the exhaust jacket 7 by externally finned ducts 19. One or more tubes 21 connect the exhaust manifold 10 to a flue 22. The flat end closure plate 6 may be provided with a manhole and manhole cover 23, to facilitate cleaning of the chamber. A plate 24 carrying a fluid fuel burner may be mounted on the manhole cover 23. The air heater may be mounted upon a foundation or platform 26 by means of a fixed pedestal 27, movable pedestals 28 and a movable flange and foot 29, thus permitting expansion.
