Abstract

1,199,806. Boiler furnace fronts. COCHRAN & CO., ANNAN Ltd. 23 April, 1968 [24 April, 1967], No. 18686/67. Heading F4B. A lagged triple pass shell boiler 1, surrounded by a spaced casing 8, is provided with a circular closure door 10 which carries a burner assembly 12 and forms a lagged annular air duct 13 through which combustion air from the space between the casing and the shell, is led to the burner. Whilst flowing from passage 14A in both directions around the annular duct, the combustion air extracts heat from the combustion products flowing between tube sets 3 and 4, through a transfer base defined between partition plate 15 in duct 13 and tube sheet 5, thereby cooling the furnace front. The heated air then passes through ducts D and E and a fan to the burner. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the fan is mounted adjacent an air inlet in the casing, the air supply from which to the door duct is regulated by a damper, and the combustion product transfer base is wholly defined within the boiler shell. Heated combustion air from the annular door duct passes into a baffle containing air bore within the boiler shell to be led to a burner tunnel.
