In a pressure oil-fired Scotch boiler, the air from a blower 7 is delivered to the burner along a, tortuous path formed by partitions 11, 12 within a blast box in the smoke box 4. The blast box 9 and burner assembly may be hinged to the boiler casing. The blower has a steep H./Q. characteristic so that a change in the flow resistance in the flame tubes 5 does not produce a large change in the amount of air supplied.
