Abstract

966,642. Air heating stoves. HUPP CORPORATION. Feb. 27, 1962, No. 7574/62. Heading F4S. [Also in Division F1] A liquid fuel space-heater comprises a cylindrical casing 20, a combustion chamber, and an air preheating housing 38; the heater being operable under cold conditions, e.g. - 70‹ F. As shown, the casing 20 is open at both ends to form an inlet 36 for fresh air and an exit for heated air at the opposite end. Within the casing 20 is housed a combustion chamber assembly comprising an outer cylindrical body member 46 to which is secured an end member 48, and an inner cylindrical member comprising front and rear members 50 and 52. A combustion air preheating housing 38 communicates with the combustion chamber assembly via opening 74, and with the atmosphere via pipe 42. Combustion air follows the path indicated by the arrows in Fig. 2 such that the air to be heated and the combustion air do not mix. The products of combustion leave the combustion chamber assembly and enter heat exchange assembly 66 where they pass from the interior of tubular member 64 to the annular duct assembly 94 through radial ducts 100 (see Fig. 3, not shown). The combustion gases exit from assembly 94 through exhaust tube 44. Motor 80 drives two fans, fan 86 drawing air to be heated in through inlet 36 and fan 84 drawing in combustion air through housing 38. An annular fuel distribution wick, e.g. a ceramic wick is mounted on rear member 52 and fed by fuel supply pipe 110. Annular baffle 53 traps excess liquid fuel which may be delivered to the wick, at the bottom of the combustion chamber where it evaporates. The heater is started by means of an electrical preheater 124 and two electrodes 138 and 130, the adjacent ends of which terminate closely to a portion of the wick and produce a spark effect. The control system for the heater is illustrated by a circuit diagram (Fig. 5, not shown).
