Abstract

704,901. Pulverulent-fuel burners. POLLOPAS PATENTS, Ltd., and BURG, H. Aug. 7, 1951, No. 18577/51. Class 75 (1) A pulverised-fuel burner for use in cement kilns and similar furnaces comprises a central tube 9, Fig. 2, for discharging a fuel-air mixture and containing means for swirling the latter, e.g. a helical deflector 12, a second tube 13 surrounding the tube 9 for discharging secondary air and containing means, e.g. a helical deflector 21, for swirling said air in the same direction as the swirl of the fuel-air mixture, and a jacket 23 in which a cooling fluid is circulated and which surrounds the tube 13. The tube 9 has a pulverulent fuel inlet 11 and an air inlet 10, whilst secondary air enters the tube 13 through an inlet 19. Water is passed into the cooling jacket 23 through a tube 26 extending to the burner outlet end of the jacket and is withdrawn together with any steam produced through an upper outlet 25. In order that the burner may be used with gaseous fuel or with both gaseous and pulverulent fuel a further tube 14 may be interposed between the tubes 9, 13 and supplied with gaseous fuel through an inlet 20, the gas being swirled by a helical deflector 22 in the same direction as the fuel-air mixture and the secondary air. The tangential velocities imparted to the fuel-air mixture, the gaseous fuel, and the secondary air, respectively, are preferably inversely proportional to the diameters of the tubes 9, 14 and 13. The secondary air is deflected inwards by a frusto-conical baffle 27, whilst the pulverulent fuel burner tube 9 has an outwardly flared outlet end 28. Specification 144,763, [Class 51 (1)], is referred to.
