Abstract

711,253. Cyclone furnaces. BABCOCK & WILCOX. Ltd. Aug. 11. 1952 [Aug. 11, 1951], No. 20206/52. Class 51 (1) In a cyclone furnace having secondary air inlet means 23 substantially tangential to the peripheral wall of the furnace chamber, a stream of air and fuel for combustion within the chamber is discharged axially towards the end of the chamber remote from the gas outlet 9. The stream of air and fuel is delivered through a duct 16, air also being supplied from tube 15 surrounding the duct. Further fuel is introduced tangentially by a duct 18 and further air by a duct 19. The cyclone furnace chamber discharges into a secondary furnace chamber 10 through the rear wall of which the tubes 15 and 16 pass. In a modification a nozzle is formed at the rear wall of the chamber 10, the fuel-air stream being directed across the secondary chamber and into the open end of the cyclone chamber. In a further modification the axis of the cyclone chamber is vertical and the cylone chamber has atits lower end a peripheral outlet to a secondary chamber.
