Abstract
627,866. Separating dust &c. from furnace gases. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., and SPARKS, C. H. Oct. 14, 1946, No. 30530. [Class 51 (i)] [Also in Group XXX] In vapour generating plant with pneumatic injection means for feeding into the furnace above the grate particles entrained by the furnace gases and collected for refiring from the gases at a plurality of points in the gas flow path, the injection means are arranged for feeding into the furnace at a plurality of regions spaced across the width of the grate particles supplied by means arranged for uniting supplies of particles from the various collecting points. In the combustion chamber 2 of the boiler installation shown, fuel is sprinkler fed onto a travelling grate 41 and combustion gases pass successively by the front section of the tube bank 1, the superheater tubes 5, the rear sections 6 and 7 of said tube bank, an economiser 17 and a final dust collector 23, dust also settling in the. hoppers 9 and 28. By suitable adjustment of the dampers 30, 31 and 32 the flue gases can be bypassed from the economiser 17 through the passage 29, when dust collects in the hopper 33. Air supplied from a fan 52 carries dust from the collector 23 to centrifugal separators 146 disposed over dividing ridges 109 and 111, Fig. 3, in the hopper 9 and also carries dust from the hopper 95, itself fed from hoppers 28 and 33, to the centrifugal separator 101 in said hopper 9, said separator having delivery shoots 108 and 110 also disposed over the dividing ridges 109 and 111 respectively. Pivoted discharge sleeves 112 and 147 are adjustable transversely over the ridges 109 and 111 to equalise delivery of dust to the ducts 83 through which it is swept by more air from the fan 52 to nozzles 84 disposed between tubes 46 lining the rear wall of the combustion chamber 2, the nozzles 84 alternating with nozzles supplying secondary air. Mica panels 152 cover observation ports in the front and rear walls of the hopper 9.
