Abstract

1389428 Air heating stoves; gas burners INTERPALET GmbH 3 Nov 1972 [5 Nov 1971 27 June 1972] 50716/72 Headings F4K and F4T Apparatus discharging a mixture of hot air and combustion gases (for use, e.g. in the shrinking of plastics wrapping sheets), consists of a guide tube 2 in which is a burner 3 with an ignition device 4, and an axially positioned fan 6 located upstream of the burner. The fan is adapted to provide a spirally flowing annular air stream within the tube 2 and the burner nozzles are arranged so that fuel gas issuing therefrom is ignited by the device 4 and directed outwardly into the spirally flowing air stream. The arrangement provides a spirally flowing annular stream 21 of combustion products encircled by a spirally flowing layer 22 of air which maintains cool the guide tube 2. In use, the apparatus includes also an external air jacket provided by a casing 1, Fig. 1, through which air flows to the fan via forward inlet openings 10 and rear openings 11, in the casing. The apparatus is portable and has a handle 7. Burners.-The burner 3 has radially extending fuel gas passages 12 and is carried in a holder 25, Fig. 6, on which is mounted the ignition device 4 comprising an electrode 14 in a ceramic holder 13. Also carried by the holder 25 are guide plates 27, 31 which act to maintain the spirally moving air stream 29 from the fan 6 as an annular stream producing spirally extending flames at the burner as indicated in Fig. 7. The burner gases discharge from the guide tube 2 as an annular stream 21. The ignition device includes a magnetic gas valve (19, Fig. 5), which is opened only when the ignition device is switched on. A guide ring 23, Fig. 1, may encircle the burner and is said to improve the spiral flow of the combustion gases.
