Abstract
1,224,354. Water heaters; heat exchange tubes; flat flame burners. INSTITUTUL DE FIZIC ATOMICA. 6 March, 1968, No. 11007/68. Headings F4A, F4S and F4T. A water heater comprises gas burners 7 heating refractory elements in tubes 6 extending through the water space, the combustion products discharging into a chamber 11 connected to a reaction fan 15 which maintains constant draught on the tubes. Each burner comprises a gas burner fed from a manifold 8 and discharging downwardly into a combustion chamber formed by a sleeve 6 1 , Fig. 4, from which the combustion gases flow through a helical groove 62 in a refractory case member 6. The refractory member is of aluminous materials or refractory coresete with high corundum content and may be impregnated with catalytic material such as oxides of Ni, Cr, V, Mo, Th, or Fe. The tubes 6 are connected at their upper ends to a tube plate 3 and at their lower ends to a plate 4 which may be connected resiliently to the outer casing, e.g. by a bellows like member, to allow for expansion. The water enters at 1 1 and flows along the tubes 6, and through holes in the baffles 2, towards the outlet 1 2 . The burner assembly is pivotally mounted on the casing and comprises an ignition device comprising a gas supply pipe 9 1 with holes 9 6 supplying the gas to a surrounding tube provided with a narrow continuous slot 9 2 interconnecting the pilot ignition orifices 9 4 which are arranged opposite each burner. Secondary combustion air entering through sleeve D cools the tops of tubes 6.
