Abstract

978,530. Spray-producers. METCO Inc. March 11, 1963 [March 5, 1963], No. 44394/63. Heading B2F. A nozzle for a flame gun suitable for spraying metal or ceramic powders comprises a nozzle body 1 terminating in a nozzle face having a substantially flat portion 2, a plurality of burner jets 3 arranged in the form of a ring in said body and terminating at the said flat portion 2, a central powder conduit 6 extending through said body and concentrically arranged with respect to the ring of jets, an annular channel 8 in said face concentrically positioned between the conduit 6 and the ring of jets, and means for causing a flow of gas into and out of the channel 8 to provide a buffer sheath of air between the powder as it leaves the conduit 6 and the flame sheath from the jets 3. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 ambient air is drawn into the channel 8 via air holes 9 by the passage of the combustible gases through the jets 3 and the passage of the powder entrained in a carrier gas through the conduit 6. The cylindrical extension 7 defining one end of the conduit 6 projects beyond the flat portion 2, and may be enclosed at its end apart from a number of divergent jets, Fig. 3 (not shown). In the embodiment of Fig. 5 the combustible gases flow through a conduit 23 and out of jets 19, the powder is passed through a conduit 29 and a central passage 25, and compressed air is forced through a conduit 34 and out of an annular channel 30. This embodiment is particularly suitable for spraying the interior of cylinders. Specification 830,456 is referred to.
