In an atomizer in which a liquid is atomized by air or other gas under pressure a cavity 10 has such a shape and is so disposed with respect to the atomizing gas flow that gas entering such cavity will be caused to resonate at an ultrasonic frequency and will atomize liquid introduced into such cavity 10. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 liquid is introduced through an inlet 13 into the gas flow and is fed with such gas flow into the cavity 10. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3 in which the cavity 10 is formed in the part 9 supported by an arm 12 the liquid is fed to the cavity 10 through a passage 14 in communication therewith. In a further embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), fuel is fed through a passage 14 to a chamber in the part 9 and from such chamber to the cavity 10 through a porous rod. In a further embodiment shown in Fig. 4 the cavity 10 is annular and formed with a nozzle 6 the liquid being supplied to the cavity 10 through an inlet 17. In yet a further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), a cavity is formed in the nozzle as indicated with reference to Fig. 4 and a further cavity is formed around a central rod passing through the nozzle. Liquid in this case is fed into the gas stream before reaching the cavities. Baffles 16 control the outflow of the gas-liquid mixture.
