Abstract
960,056. Spray burners. ENTREPRISE GENERALE DE CHAUFFAGE INDUSTRIEL PILLARD FRERES & CIE S.A. June 15, 1962 [Aug. 4, 1961], No. 23131/62. Heading F4T. In a return flow liquid fuel burner 5, 6, 7 the atomizing nozzle is surrounded by an annular passage 4 arranged to direct a centripetal planar stream of air or steam against the base of, and normal to the axis of the jet of atomized fuel, to stabilize the divergence of the jet. In operation, the air is supplied under constant pressure to a chamber 1, passes through holes 2 into an auxiliary chamber 3 and then issues from the annular passage 4. The action of the air or steam is negligible at relatively high liquid fuel output rates when the natural divergence of the atomized jet is relatively small but has its greatest effect at relatively low fuel output rates when the divergence is relatively large. Further jets of air may be provided downstream of the annular passage and inclined to the axis of the nozzle.
