Abstract

1,088,089. Gas burners. PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. July 27, 1965 [July 30, 1964], No. 32011/65. Heading F4T. A gas burner has a flame nozzle 10 supplied with oxygen and a gas having a low speed of combustion, e.g. natural gas, through lines 2 and 4 respectively, and is surrounded by a second nozzle 7 projecting beyond its outlet end, the annular space 21 between the nozzles being supplied with an incombustible gas, e.g. oxygen or air, at above atmospheric pressure which forms a protective envelope around the foot of the flame 17. Oxygen supplied to the space 21 may be obtained from line 2 and controlled by a screw 15. The gas flow to the foot of the flame should contain an amount of oxygen per unit time which is from 5 to 20% of the total amount of oxygen supplied per unit time. In Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), a multiple burner head has its flame nozzles and secondary nozzles supplied from two common supply lines 25 and 27, respectively.
