Abstract

1,122,675. Spray-producers. CLAYTON CORP. OF DELAWARE. 29 Nov., 1965, No. 50585/65. Heading B2F. Apparatus suitable for spraying a liquid from a pressurized container 10 comprises a member 12 provided with a hollow cylindrical stem 18 defining a resonance chamber 22, a constriction in the form of a jet orifice 30 communicating axially with the chamber whereby an accelerated stream of liquid is introduced from the container axially into the chamber, and an actuator spray head 28 mounted on the stem 18 so as to disrupt the axial stream, which is subsequently discharged from the spray orifice 54 as a pulsating spray. The broken-up liquid particles in the chamber 22 are re-accelerated through a spiral passage (48), Fig. 2 (not shown) to the orifice 54 which is defined in a thin wall 52. The wall 52 responds like a diaphragm to pressure fluctuations in the chamber 22. The spiral passage may be replaced by tangential passages (68), Fig. 4 (not shown). The lower end of the member 12 is provided with a valve head 16 provided with lateral flow passages 32, the valve being opened by depressing or tilting the head 28 which is provided with a knurled portion 42. A cavity 56 in the head 28 forms a hood or shield. An anti-chamber (55), Fig. 3 (not shown) may be provided immediately behind the spray orifice.
