Abstract

1412276 Spray producers S C JOHNSON & SON INC 9 Oct 1972 [18 Oct 1971] 46429/ 72 Heading B2F [Also in Division Fl] A device for continuously dispensing fluid from a pressurised container, e.g. an aerosol dispensing container, comprises a nozzle 26 and an apertured member 28 secured upstream of the nozzle, the member defining an aperture or apertures of from 0.5 to 15 microns. In the embodiment shown, the device fits on to a pressurised container 10 and the fluid product is dispensed via a dip tube 12, a prefilter 24, a valve 14 and valve stem 22, a filter 32, and the apertured member 28 which serves to restrict the product flow and influence the size of the drops dispensed. The valve 14 is opened and maintained open by means of a screw-threaded cap 50 which indirectly depresses the valve stem 22. To assist in atomising the fluid product a higher velocity propellant vapour stream may impact the fluid either before or after the apertured member 28. The propellant vapour may be supplied from the container through a conduit (90), Figure 9 (not shown), coaxial with the dip tube, through one or more conduits (110) at an angle to the fluid product exit, Figures 12 to 14 (not shown), through a single converging conical conduit surrounding the fluid exit, Figure 15 (not shown), through a single conduit parallel to the fluid exit, the vapour on leaving the member 28 being deflected towards the nozzle (26) by means of a deflector (118), Figure 16 (not shown), or through a lateral port (106), Figure 11 (not shown), into a chamber (96) of the dip tube, preceding the member 28 and having a floating disc (102). Pressurised containers not provided with valves are closed by means of suitable plugs (not shown) in the nozzles 26. Numerous examples of materials suitable for the member 28 are given.
