Abstract

A combustion apparatus of the type that includes a hollow body defining a combustion chamber therein, a fuel nozzle for delivering a fuel spray to the interior of said chamber, and means for delivering air to the interior of said chamber to maintain the combustion of said fuel and diluting the gaseous products of combustion, comprising improved means for mixing the fuel and air characterized by current delivery means for delivering a part of said air to the interior of said chamber as a plurality of separate streams around and, generally, along the geometric axis of said fuel spraying, whereby low pressure wake pressures are established between adjacent streams downstream of said stream delivery means, followed by a region of interaction and turbulent dissipation of said separate streams to thus favor the mixing of said fuel ible and said air in a form that produces a low-smoke combustion of said fuel.
