Abstract
578,455. Spraying fusible materials. METALLIZING ENGINEERING CO., Inc. April 17, 1944, No. 7050. Convention date, Oct. 25, 1943. [Class 69 (iii)] A metal spraying gun uses low pressure burning gas and high pressure oxygen, air &c., to support combustion or vice versa to increase output without the danger of backfiring and burning out the nozzle. High pressure oxygen &c., from the duct 21 passes from a manifold 13 through one or more bores 15 while low pressure burning gas passes into the manifold 14. An annular groove 16 allows limited mixing so that the high pressure air &c. passing through the bores 15 projects the mixture into the aligned bores 17 and through aligned jets 3 into the nozzle 24 to melt the metal rod 1 or the metal powder and project it where required. The bores 15 may be flared at their entrance and may widen towards their. exits. The bores 17 may taper towards their exits and may also be curved. When using high pressure burning gas, it is fed from duct 19 to manifold 13, the corresponding low pressure oxygen &c. being supplied from duct 20 to the manifold 14 In Fig. 6 an annular groove 30 connects the outlets of all the bores 17<1> so that, if one jet backfires, all backfire and the operator becomes aware of it. The inlet ends of the bores 3 may be 50 per cent larger than the exits of the bores 17 to allow for misalignment in assembling.
