Abstract
807,792. Spraying metal. METALLIZING ENGINEERING CO. Inc. Nov. 7, 1955 [Dec. 9, 1954], No. 31770/55. Class 69 (3). Metal wire 1 is fed centrally through a gun head 2 and into a combustion chamber 13 where it is heat softened, and the expanding combustion gases act as a blast gas in atomizing the metal and expelling it through a nozzle 12. Combustion gas and combustion supporting gas is fed to the gun head through valves 20 and 19 respectively, and pass through passages 4 and 3 to annular grooves 15 and 17. The gases then flow through sets of circumferentially spaced orifices 16 and 18 in a mixing plate 6 and mix within an annular channel 5, and then flow into the combustion chamber through orifices 8 in a plate 7. The chamber 13, which has a sparkplug 32 for the initial ignition of the gases, may be preheated, and its walls may be of a material which will radiate heat, e.g. micro-crystalline alumina. In an alternative construction powder is entrained in a gas, e.g. combustion gas, or combustion supporting gas, or a mixture thereof, and fed centrally through the gun and into the combustion chamber. U.S.A. Specification 2,539,487 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 739,328.
