Headings B2F and B2K [Also in Division F4] An apparatus suitable for spraying molten refractory materials to patch up furnace walls comprises a vessel 10 provided with an agitator 11 designed to mix liquid fuel supplied through an inlet 12 with a powder such as alumina, burnt magnesite or calcined dolomite supplied] by a screw conveyor 13, an outlet 15 for the vessel 10 adapted to deliver the powder/fuel oil mixture centrally to the spray producer via a valve 16, and a tube supplying an oxidizing gas such as air, oxygen or oxygen enriched air to the spray producer concentrically with respect to the powder/fuel oil supply tube. The powder/fuel oil mixture may include a binder and may be atomised with a subsidiary oxygen jet prior to combustion. The vessed 10 may be provided with a pump and the powder/oil mixture may be fed by the suction of an injector burner. The oxygen &c., may be supplied to the powder/oil mixture in or upstream of the nozzle.
