Abstract
758,675. Jet propulsion plant. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES), Ltd., J. Dec. 7, 1954 [Dec. 11, 1953], No. 34532/53. Class 110(3) [Also in Group XII] A core for the jet pipe of a jet propulsion engine constructed in part from a plurality of telescopic sections with means for moving the sections axially is arranged so that, when retracted, the inner section which carries a pilot fuel nozzle lies within the surrounding sections. The core consists of a plurality of annular telescopic sections a. At the larger end of each section, other than the smallest, a plate b is secured which is slidable on a pilot fuel supply tube c. The smallest section is provided with a pilot fuel nozzle d and is secured to the tube c. A piston e slidable in a cylinder f is mounted on the other end of the tube c. In normal operation compressed air is supplied to a pipe i and the telescopic sections extended. When it is required to reheat the gases, fuel is supplied to an annular burner surrounding the section a and pilot fuel supplied through a pipe g, orifices h and pipe c to the pilot nozzle d. In this condition, the nozzle d' lies within the surrounding sections of the core. An annular baffle may be provided form ixing the reheat fuel with the main gas stream.
