[Class 75(i)] [Also in Groups II and XII] .Broken coal or other solid fuel is pulverized in an endless passage type jet pulverizer 14 (see Group II) and the fines are carried in suspension in an elastic fluid e.g. steam, to a pipe 34 where they are mixed with air from a blower 6 and pipe 22 and pass to a burner 38. The burner 38 comprises a tube 40, Fig. 2, receiving the suspension of fuel in steam and air, a pipe 56, 58 for supplying auxiliary air for combustion, a sleeve 60 surrounding said pipe 56 to which sleeve liquid or gaseous fuel, e.g. oil or oil and coal, is fed from a pipe 52, and disperser nozzles 44 for air or steam from a chest 46 surrounding the outlet end of the tube 40. Primary air for combustion passes through an annular space 70 between the burner and the furnace walls. The sleeve 60 is adjustable axially to vary the oil outlet space between the sleeve and the pipe 56. An alternative form of burner, Fig. 3, includes a passage 76 for the pulverized fuel in suspension, a coaxial tube 78 within said passage, for liquid or gaseous fuel, whose outlet opening 82 is adjustably restricted by axial movement of a rod 84, and disperser nozzles 96.
