Abstract
959,528. Burners. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING Inc. Sept. 20, 1962 [Dec. 27, 1961], No. 35826/62. Heading F4T. A pilot burner for a main burner 10, burning gas, oil or pulverized coal has a central air pipe 26 and a pipe 31 having an outlet nozzle 32 positioned downstream of an eddy plate 28 which forms with the pipe 26 a restricted annular space for air. A cylindrical member 27 encircles the plate 28 and protrudes in a downstream direction. A cammed annular ring 34 is fixed to the inside of the pipe 26 adjacent the plate 28 which is slidable on a guide pipe 18 for a main oil gun 16 by a rod 36 to vary the size of the restricted annular space. A spark plug 33 is disposed in the plate 28. A pilot flame indicating device 46 as described in Specification 866,135 is operated by the pressure differential between a point adjacent the eddy plate 28 and a point downstream thereof. An annular ring 42 is positioned downstream of the plate 28 and has three equi-spaced legs 44. The main burner comprises the oil gun 16, an annular passage 20 for gas, a further annular passage 22 for pulverized coal, and an annular passage 24 for combustion air.
