Abstract

1,096,551. Burning pulverulent fuel. FOSTER WHEELER CORPORATION. June 30, 1966, No. 29522/66. Heading F4T. In a burner arrangement for burning a slurry mixture of fine coal and water, coarse coal from a separator 19 enters a pulverizer 15 with air from an inlet 17 to become fine dry coal fed into the annular portion 14 of a burner and the slurry mixture passes from the separator 19 to a decanter 9 and is fed as a partially dried mixture to a burner tube 22, the dry coal being ignited by means of oil supplied through a tube (7) and ignited by means of an electrode (32) and the burning of the dry coal then providing continuous ignition for the slurry which is supplied through an atomizer nozzle (23) having air jet passages (28) oriented to direct pressurized air into a frusto-conical section (29) and cause a helical swirling air movement.
