Abstract

1470820 Atomizer SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 25 June 1974 [27 June 1973] 28129/74 Heading F4T An atomizer comprises a tubular body 1, a liquid supply connection 15, and a valve stem 4 extending through the body and connected at one end to the body and carrying a valve head 6 which forms a slit nozzle 7 with the body, the ratio of the length of the substantially parallel faces of the slit having a ratio of length to width variable between 2 and 30. The valve stem is maintained in a central non-rotary position by a guide vane 17 and is adjustable so as to vary the width of the slit, by a screw member 12. The main fuel inlet 15 and an auxiliary fuel inlet 9 connected to a swirl chamber 16, are provided. In a modification, the valve stem (24) Fig. II (not shown) is solid, and there is no auxiliary fuel supply. The atomizer may be used for the atomization of slurry suspension or dispersion, as water to be injected into a flare system, or liquid fuel such as light or heavy petroleum fuel, shale oil, or tar sand oil, or mixtures of powdered solid carbonaceous fuel such as coal, coke, carbon black, or lignite, with water, alcohol or oil.
