Abstract

Blowpipe burners; burners, mounting and adjusting.-A gas blowpipe burner is provided with a number of air jets of various shapes and sizes, each of which may operate with any one of a corresponding number of differently-siezd gas supplies in order to produce a variety of flames, the ratio of gas to air of which may be regulated. The burner consists of a cylindrical body a, on the coned surfaces d, e of which rotate respectively the circular portion b and the double conical portion c, either separately or together as a whole. The body a is provided with radial inlets f, g for gas and air respectively. The part b carries the air jets which are brought, in turn, into communication with the air inlet g. The part c that rotates inside the member b carries the radial gas outlets, whilst its outer ring carries the same number of flame opening k, of any desired shape, which may be lined with fireproof material such as steatite. The amount of gas and air supplied may be regulated by rotating the inlet tubes n, p respectively. In a modication the air passage g is arranged centrally between a number of gas passages f, and the outer ring which is fitted with the flame apertures k is carried by the part b. A further modification is described as being applicable for hand use. In this case the parts b, a are respectively attached to the sleeve q and the gas supply pipe r, whilst air is supplied by the inner concentric tube s. A hand grip t is provided and the size of the flame is controlled by the rotation of the sleeve q. In all three forms the ignition of the mixture of gas and air is effected by means of a small by-pass jet u.
