Abstract
467,218. Liquid, pulverized, or colloidal fuel burners. WILTSHIRE, W. F. Jan. 3, 1936, No. 306. [Class 75 (i)] A liquid, pulverized, or colloidal fuel burner comprises a vortex chamber 1 for the passage of primary air connected by a tapered contraction 2 to an extension tube 3 of substantially constant cross-section as described in Specification 414,756, and means for introducing fuel at a point along the vortex contraction or its extension in the form of radial jets or through peripheral openings in the extension tube. In Fig. 1, the fuel is supplied through an annular orifice 6 between a streamlined outer body 4 and an adjustable inner tube 5 communicating with the atmosphere. In a modification, the inner tube is replaced by a solid valve spindle. In another modification, the fuel jet body is formed in one piece with separate fuel and air passages which communicate with orifices inclined in the direction of the air flow and preferably in the direction of rotation of the vortex. In Fig. 4, the fuel is supplied through inclined orifices 3b to the vortex extension tube 3 and air is admitted to vary the effect of the vortex through a regulable passage in a streamlined stem 14.
