Abstract
653,626. Liquid fuel burners. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. Dec. 13, 1947, No. 32921. [Class 75(i)] In a liquid fuel burner of the spill type comprising a swirl chamber 7 Fig. 2, having tangential fuel inlet ports 8, the spill tube 14 has a tubular extension 26 extending towards the discharge orifice 10 for such a length that the liquid fuel swirling around said extension 26 reaches the open end thereof only after it has lost a substantial part of its kinetic energy. The area of the annular section contained between the open end of the extension 26 and the radially adjacent wall of the chamber 7 may be substantially equal to the cross sectional area of the extension 26. As shown in Fig. 3 the tubular extension 29 may be connected to the tube 14 by a ball or other universal joint 31, 32, whereby the extension 29 may align itself automatically with the axis of the fuelvortex and so compensate for any slight offsetting of the orifice 10 relative to the axis of the chamber 7.
