Abstract

475,721. Liquid-fuel burners. BOLT, F. L., and WALLSEND SLIPWAY & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. April 24, 1937, No. 11785. [Class 75 (i)] A liquid-fuel burner comprises a tubular body 1 formed with primary and secondary air inlets 2, 3 and a fuel inlet 26, a fuel injector tube 4 and a primary air tube 7 fitted with a nozzle 30, arranged axially in the body 1, a discharge nozzle 5, and an annular structure such as an aligned series of spaced forwardly converging circular or polygonal rings 9 arranged between the nozzles 5, 30 and directing the secondary air into a chamber 6 to mix with the fuel and primary air before discharge. The fuel injector tube 4 is fitted with a control valve 18 operated by a hand wheel 24 and formed with a helical extension 25 imparting a whirling motion to the fuel. The air inlet 2 is fitted with a control valve 12 and the air inlet 3 is fitted with an adjustable vane 11 imparting a whirling motion to the secondary air. The rings 9 may be threaded on support rods interposed between the nozzle 30 and a ring 31a carried by the nozzle 5. In a modification, the rings 9 have plane annular flanges.
