Abstract
533,807. Electron multipliers. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Nov. 28, 1939, No. 30968. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1938. [Class 39 (i)] Electron multpliers comprise a series of tubular electrodes A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>2</SP>, A<SP>3</SP>, Fig. 2, impermeable to electrons and secondary emissive on their inner surface, and a series of secondary emissive electrodes G<SP>1</SP>, G<SP>2</SP> which are permeable to electrons, disposed transversely between the ends of the tubular electrodes. The latter may be of circular or polygonal sectioned cylindrical form, and their ends may be narrowed towards the following transverse electrode. The electron permeable electrodes may be of mesh or grid form, or of foil material, and may be flat as shown or of cupped or conical form, and may carry a wire extension along the axis of the structure. The assembly may be of uniform or increasing section in the direction of movement of the elections, or may be arranged in toroidal or zig-zag fashion as shown in Fig. 8. In another arrangement, the impermeable electrodes are alternately of larger and smaller diameters and slightly overlapping.
