Abstract

313,318. Robinson, E. Y., and Associated Electrical Industries, Ltd. June 19, 1928. Vacuum tubes.-In tubes having a thermionic cathode surrounded by a tubular grid and an anode, and operating with a substantially pure electron discharge, the grid electrode consists of two openwork tubes 2, 4 adjacent one another and connected electrically together within the tube. The supporting wires 1, 3 of the tubes may be welded together. The two tubes may consist of helices of different pitch, e.g. of 80 and 36 turns to the inch respectively, or one tube may consist of a helix and the other of gauze or of parallel rods. The electrode may be used as an ion collector or as a screening-grid. According to the Provisional Specification, the two grid tubes may be separate and operated at different potentials.
