Abstract
308,879. Dicker, S. G. S., (Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken). March 5, 1928. Vacuum tubes.-In a discharge tube for rectifying polyphase currents and having an incandescent cathode and at least three anodes, all the electrodes are mounted on two stems or pinches. The cathode 7 and two anodes 8 may be mounted on one stem 2, as shown, while a third anode 8 is mounted on a stem 4. Other constructions are described wherein the cathode and one anode are mounted on one stem and two anodes on another stem (Fig. 1, not shown), and wherein the cathode is mounted alone on one stem and three anodes on the second stem. To increase the back-ignition voltage the anodes are surrounded by hoods 9 having constrictions 10. These hoods may be of insulating material, or of conducting material which is connected through condensers 14 to the anodes. The cathode preferably consists of a wide helix of tungsten wire upon which an oxide-coated nickel wire has been wound, or tungsten, thorium, or molybdenum-thorium cathodes may be used. The anode supporting wires may be enclosed in insulating cylinders.
